Doctor Doom was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, making his first appearance in the comic book Fantastic Four #5 in July 1962. His story follows Victor Von Doom, a brilliant scientist and sorcerer of Gypsy descent, born in Latveria, whose pride and arrogance caused an accident during a scientific experiment at university, slightly disfiguring his face (which he exaggerated) and making him place all the blame on his former classmate Reed Richards (future Mr. Fantastic); banished and bitter, he traveled to Tibet where he forged his iconic armor and mask, then returned as the absolute and ruthless ruler of Latveria, combining scientific genius and mastery of magic to constantly challenge the Fantastic Four in his obsessive quest for world domination and recognition of his superiority.
